Lilies come through after initial game abandoned

In the re-arranged Delata Hotel Group Leinster U20 football championship quarter-final this evening in Cusack Park, Mullingar, Kildare booked their place in the last four following a five point win over the home side on a final score line of Kildare 1-20 Westmeath 2-12.

The game was abandoned last week after half-time, the match official deeming the pitch was unplayable, Kildare led at the time by three points.

Kildare dominated from the start tonight, and by the 20 minute led 1-12 to 0-1, the goal coming from the impressive Ronan Kelly.

Westmeath came back before the break with a goal from Cillian Rochford but Kildare led at half-time 1-13 to 0-4.

Westmeath got a second goal, from Donnach Maguire and two-pointer had the lead back to just three points.

However The Lilies came through that tricky period hitting four points on the trot and now take on Meath on Wednesday 29 April in the Leinster semi-final.

Kildare scorers: Ronan Kelly 1-7 (2 two pointer frees), Jimmy Lynch 0-8 (1 two-pointer free, 2 frees), Ben Ryan 0-2 (2 pointeer free), Euan Cowzer 0-1, Colm Moran 0-1, Harry Redmond 0-1.
