Kildare County Council is asked to act as climate change hits

A Kildare County Council tenant wears a coat all the time because of the cold condition of her home.

This was the claim made by Naas Mayor Bill Clear at a Naas Municipal District committee meeting.

“She’s living in a house that’s freezing," said Cllr Bill Clear.

He added: “It’s unfair that people are treated like this.”

He was speaking as Cllr Ger Dunne raised the issue of the future of St Ita’s Place, off Newbridge Road, Naas.

Cllr Dunne commented that the only advantage of the hot spell this summer was the houses there were still cool.

Cllr Dunne asked KCC for information about the future of the development.

According to KCC, the tenants will be contacted shortly “about their housing options and possible transfer to alternative accommodation.”

It added that the housing body, Cluid, “is responsible for the maintenance of the properties until all tenants are transferred.”

KCC said in April that 11 units of the original 30 units are still occupied and these families will need to be rehoused permanently in the future.
