A 40 year driving ban was imposed on  a man who was found driving while disqualified.

Before Naas District Court was Wilson Mwenya, 48, whose address was given as 7 The Harbour, Market Point, Mullingar.

He was prosecuted for driving without insurance and having no licence on July 8, 2022, at Laraghbryan, Maynooth.

Sgt Dave Hanrahan said the defendant has 53 previous convictions, including 11 for no insurance.

He said he was disqualified at the time because a nine year ban had been imposed in Mullingar in 2019. He also said he had a conviction since the incident and his first conviction was in 2007.

Defending solicitor David Powderly said the defendant has six children and “not all are in the same location.”

He said the defendant was apologetic and had learned his lesson.

Referring to his record Judge Desmond Zaidan commented: “He must be up there with the worst in Ireland.”

Judge Zaidan added the defendant had disregard for the road traffic laws.

The judge imposed two consecutive five month prison Terms and disqualified him for 40 years.
