A man who contacted gardaí claiming he had been shot, was fined at Naas District Court.

Stephen Killeen, 48, whose address was given as 53 Ballyhagan, Carbury, was prosecuted for criminal damage at Leixlip garda station and a breach of the Public Order Act at Ballyhagan, Carbury, on November 30, 2023.

The court was told that when gardaí spoke to the defendant subsequent to the call he was unsteady, aggressive and told the gardaí to f… off.

He said he had made the call that he had been shot.

The court was told that he was arrested and ripped a cell mattress as well as soiling the cell.

The court was told the defendant had not been shot.

He has 15 previous convictions for public order offences.

Solicitor Seamus Boyle said the defendant is apologetic and has psychological issues.

“Effectively he should have been on medication and shouldn’t have been drinking,” said Mr Boyle.

He added the defendant needs to stay on his medication to avoid causing trouble in future.

The defendant was fined €500 by Judge Desmond Zaidan.
