People are being asked never to discard cigarettes or matches

As the dry spell continues. Local residents are being urged to remain vigilant following a series of extensive bog and grassland fires across Kildare, with crews continuing to battle blazes alongside Laois Fire & Rescue Service.

Kildare Fire Service said firefighters have been responding to a number of significant incidents in recent days, thanking personnel for their dedication while working in challenging conditions.

The service is also reminding the public that everyone has a role to play in reducing the risk of wildfires, particularly during periods of dry weather.

People are being asked never to discard cigarettes or matches from vehicles or while outdoors and to avoid lighting campfires or barbecues in the countryside. Anyone who notices signs of a fire is urged to contact the emergency services immediately by dialling 112 or 999.

Agricultural landowners are also being encouraged to take extra precautions during harvesting and field work.

Fire officials advise ensuring machinery is properly maintained and kept free of combustible debris and dried grass, while water supplies and firefighting equipment should be readily available.

Where practical, farmers are also encouraged to create and maintain fire breaks and avoid activities that could generate sparks during periods of heightened fire risk.

Kildare Fire Service said that by working together, communities can help protect homes, farmland and wildlife from the devastating impact of wildfires, urging everyone to stay vigilant and prepared throughout the current spell of elevated fire risk.
