Kildare hurlers on the road, footballers at home, both versus Derry

While the Kildare footballers, following their dramatic one point win over Clare on Sunday last, are out against Derry in St Conleth's Park, in Round 4 of the Allianz Football League, David Herity's hurlers are also in action against, yes you guessed it, Derry also.
However while most like-minded folk would have though a double header would have been the ideal (and sensible) fixture, the GAA works in a different zone at times and so the boys with the sticks and sliothers head up north to take on their Derry counterparts, a game fixed for Owenbeg Derry GAA Centre and timed to start at 12.30.
And so a huge game for players of both codes.
For the hurlers a win could set them up for a possible semi-final if they can keep their 2023 winning run going.
They already have the Kehoe Cup in the bag, look to have their place cemented, at least for next season while the possibility of promotion is still a live issue.
Kildare are a very fit and focused hurling side. Time and time David Herity mentions the work that has been carried out by backroom team and it certainly is paying off with a great start to this season's Allianz Hurling campaign.
No doubt there are tougher days ahead but to date they have answered all the questions that have been asked of them and a win on Sunday against Derry certainly be a huge scalp.
Johnny Byrne seems to be the only injury, he broke his thumb in two places in the last outing against Down in Hawkfield but apart from that they seem to have a clean bill of healthy.

Meanwhile Glenn Ryan's footballers will entertain Derry at St Conleth's Park, a game that throws-in at 2 pm.
Following their dramatic win over Clare, away, on Sunday, there is sure to be another huge crowd at this one.
Derry are on a real high at the minute.
Ulster champions last season and went all the way to the All-Ireland semi-final they have followed up that form winning their three opening games in the Division 2 of the League and will be coming to Newbridge on a real high.
They were very impressive winners against Meath last Saturday, a game shown live on RTE and no doubt will fancy their chances come Sunday.
Their manager, Rory Gallagher, made the long journey to Ennis on Sunday last to throw an eye over Kildare and there can be no doubt that up to the final ten minutes he could not have been over impressed.
However when Kildare finally got into their stride, hitting the last four points of the game to win by one, maybe the All-Ireland winner made the long journey scratching his head somewhat as to what to expect.
Glenn Ryan will probably start his team closer to the one that finished rather than the one started.
Big, game for both.
Should be interesting.
