Kildare man in court over Naas cyclist's road death

A man has appeared in court following a fatal road collision near Clane last year.
Douglas Ryder, 27, whose address was given as The Haven, Gilltown, Donadea, faces an allegation of dangerous driving causing death at Firmount East on August 20, 2022.
The court heard that Mr Fleming set out for a cycle early that day from his home and the accident occurred soon after 8am.
It will be alleged that the defendant was driving a lorry tractor unit and was going in the same direction as the cyclist.
Mr Fleming, the court heard, was struck from behind into a ditch and the accident took place between Firmount Cross and Millicent Cross.
Judge Desmond Zaidan was also told that the defendant and others rendered medical assistance to Mr Fleming, who was aged 64.
Mr Fleming passed away shortly before 9am at the scene.
Barrister Mark Gibbons applied for bail for the defendant.
Judge Zaidan fixed bail at €5,000 in the defendant’s own bond.
Judge Ziadan said irrespective of the outcome he wanted to express his sympathy to the family of the deceased.
He said the defendant should have no contact with Mr Fleming’s family, friends or any State witnesses.
He also said the gardai would have permission to reenter the case to revoke bail if the conditions are not adhered to.
The judge also welcomed the appointment of a family liaison officer because it can be frustrating for families not knowing what is taking place when a case like this arises.
The case was adjourned to May 25.
