A man was told to stay out of his wife’s bedroom at a Naas District Court sitting.

The man appeared before the court for  breaching a safety order granted in a family law court.

Sgt Dave Hanrahan told the court that the man lives at the same address as his wife and on November 3 shortly before 11pm he came into the bedroom while intoxicated and refused to leave “putting her in fear.”

The court also heard that the woman had a safety order.

The man told the court he wanted to lie down in his bed and his wife said there was a safety order in place.

Although they live in the same dwelling they live separate lives.

The man said he generally sleeps in a separate room.

Judge Desmond Zaidan applied the Probation Act.

He said the man should continue to use a separate room.

The court also heard that the safety order was put in place on October 24 for a period of three years and the judge advised him that this could be appealed to the circuit court.

“You’ve no reason to go into her room, don’t go into her room; she could ring the gardaí. You are not barred from the house but stay away from her,” said the judge.

He added: “I could put you in jail, I don’t want to do that. I won’t be as lenient next time.”
