KILDARE: Man sent sexually explicit texts to 14 year old girl

A man sent sexually explicit texts to a 14 year old girl, it was alleged at Naas District Court.
The man, who was 19 at the time of the alleged offence, is being prosecuted for sending sexually explicit material to a child on two dates in 2020.
Detective Garda Mandy Cagney said no photos were included and the incident revolved around text messages.
The garda also said the defendant met the girl on a social media app and the girl has not been identified.
She added there was reference to masturbating and the girl did not ask his age and did not know he was an adult.
The court also heard that the defendant has been very cooperative and that the incident came to light as the result of the work of a national unit which monitors apps.
It is believed that the girl lives in the United Kingdom.
Judge Zaidan indicated that if the defendant pleads not guilty the matter will likely go before a jury but will otherwise be heard in the district court.
The issue was adjourned to June 22.
