A query regarding CCTV software was put forward by a councillor at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting on Wednesday, February 15.

Fianna Fáil (FF) Cllr Suzanne Doyle put forward the query, following a motion by Fine Gael Cllr Peggy O' Dwyer to Kildare County Council (KCC).

Cllr O' Dwyer called on KCC to install cameras to monitor vehicles crossing Caragh Bridge in view of the recent damage which has occurred again to the bridge.

FF Cllr Rob Power added that certain 'incidents' which occurred on the bridge resulted in access being cut off for Caragh, and it has subsequently had an economic impact on the the village.

KCC said that there was CCTV in place to monitor the bridge.

When Cllr Doyle asked KCC if it had any CCTV software to specifically detect Heavy-Goods Vehicles passing over the bridge,

KCC replied that it did not have such software.

Cllr O’ Dwyer also asked KCC to check for the bye-laws relating to the bridge, which was supported by all members.

KCC said that it would investigate the bye-laws.
