'The pipe network is in bits in Celbridge and Leixlip'

People living in Leixlip “are wondering if they will be able to boil the spuds.”

So says local councillor Paul Brooks.

“We never know when the water is going to go, (it could be ) once a week, every couple of weeks,” he told a Celbridge Leixlip Municipal District meeting.

“The (water) infrastructure is crumbling. They don’t know when the water is going to go.”

He has asked that KCC engage with Uisce Éireann “to understand what the short and long-term plans are for dealing with the repeated loss of water supply.”

He said although UÉ is responsible for public water “we (Kildare County Council) are constantly blamed (and) something really, really needs to be done.”

Cllr Nuala Killeen said the pipe network “is in bits in Leixlip and Celbridge." She said sometimes an outage is repaired and then the supply is subsequently cut off.

“There are issues day after day. It would drive you to the end of your reason trying to deal with it,” she added.

The council said UÉ will be contacted.
