Kildare town man fined €1,000 for urinating through neighbour’s letterbox

CRIMINAL DAMAGE OFFENCE
A Kildare town resident was fined at Naas District Court on Thursday, January 11 last for urinating through a neighbour's letterbox.
Judge Desmond Zaidan imposed the fine on one James Dempsey, with an address listed as Apartment 18, Claregate Apartments in Kildare town.
Gardaí told the judge on June 29, 2022, the 53-year-old man became embroiled in an argument with a neighbour of his.
Shortly after the argument, he went to the neighbour's letterbox and proceeded to urinate through it, which constituted a criminal damage offence.
Upon being informed about the offence, Judge Zaidan asked the gardaí: "What?"
After a Garda Sergeant repeated the information to him, Judge Zaidan remarked: "Whatever happened to the old saying: 'love thy neighbour?'"
It was heard that Mr Dempsey had no previous convictions prior to the offence.
Judge Zaidan ultimately decided to impose a €1,000 fine on Mr Dempsey, which is to be paid within three months.
