Some are under threat because of the amount of new construction taking place

A call has been made for Kildare County Council to ensure that the county's hedgerows are protected.

Cllr Rupert Heather has asked KCC to "act to protect centuries old hedgerows."

He's particularly concerned about those bordering new developments across the county.

He said it is necessary to "help conserve our natural environment."
