Planning permission granted by Kildare Co Council

A new Activity Pavilion is to be built at Barretstown - the not-for-profit camp for children with cancer and other serious illnesses located near Ballymore Eustace in Co Kildare.

Being planned is the demolition of an existing archery shed and a mini golf area.

The designs involve the construction of a new single storey Activity Pavilion measuring over 700 square metres.

The plans include an outdoor plant room and landscaping works.

The development is within the grounds of Barretstown House which is a protected structure and Barretstown Castle which is a Recorded Monument.

Planning permission was applied for on January 25 and was granted on June 5.

Barretstown offers free, specially designed camps and programmes for children and their families affected by cancer and other serious illness – supported behind the scenes by 24 hour on site medical and nursing care.

All of the children and families come to Barretstown free of charge. Everything, including accommodation, food and medical assistance are provided at no cost to the family.

Barretstown is supported by donations and the fundraising efforts of corporate supporters, individuals and community groups.

Barretstown is recognised as a centre of excellence in childhood cancer care and other serious illnesses. Children are referred to Barretstown based on their medical needs.

Since the facility first opened its gates in 1994, it has brought the magic of Barretstown to over 125,000 campers.
