CONTESTED

A female traffic warden was allegedly assaulted by a man in County Kildare.

That’s the allegation made by gardaí who appeared in Naas District Court on Thursday, July 27 last to substitute Judge Alec Gabbett.

It was alleged that John Connors, with an address listed as The Abberley Court Hotel, Belgard Road, Tallaght in County Dublin, had committed the offence on the Main Street of Newbridge on January 24, 2020.

Specifically, the 34-year-old is charged with being in contravention of Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997, more commonly known as 'assault causing harm.'

He is also accused of committing a dangerous driving offence on the same date and at the same place: gardaí alleged that, following the alleged assault, he sped away from the scene, and caused the traffic warden to take evasive action to avoid being hit by his vehicle.

Barrister Aisling Murphy, who appeared to defend Mr Connors, told Judge Gabbett that her client fully contests the accusations made by gardaí against him.

The case will resume on December 12.
