'Motorists are driving way in excess of the limit'

A speed radar sign won’t be provided on a  busy traffic route in Naas.

Mayor Bill Clear made the case for the sign to be installed at Sallins Road “(because of) the excessive speeds that are regularly witnessed (and) given that a school and a GAA club are located on this road.”placeholder image

Cllr Bill Clear

He added: “Speeds are way in excess of 50 km/h” and said that this technology was successfully deployed in Sallins.

Kildare County Council engineer Donal Hodgins told a Naas Municipal District meeting that the  location is “inappropriate for the installation of vehicular activated speed limit signage as it is well within an existing 50kph zone and not in a rural area.”

Mr Hodgins added that the enforcement of speed limits is a matter for the gardaí and the location “can be forwarded to them for consideration.”
