Pregnant feral cat found wandering in Kildare garden

Kildare animals in need
This lovely ginger cat named Fergie was found wandering in the garden of a house near Naas a few months ago and was very nervous around people.
The family had a feeling that it could be a female as the cat was quite small. For genetic reasons, only about 20% of ginger cats are female, so they are quite rare.
The KWWSPCA TNR team (Trap/Neuter/Return) trapped Fergie and discovered that she was heavily pregnant and just a week away from giving birth to five beautiful ginger kittens. Timing was perfect because if the kittens had been born feral like their mother, they may not have all survived.
Fergie stayed at our shelter with her kittens for about six weeks and she was then spayed and returned to the garden where she was found. TNR is a successful way of giving feral cats a better quality of life. The five kittens will shortly be adopted.
Fergie appears regularly in the garden now and is accepting food from the family every day. She has become a little more tame, but is happy to keep her distance.
She has adopted the family rather than the other way around and continues to live her natural life in the wild.
Lots of great books for a Euro each!
