Ramps and speed notices needed at Naas road

Kildare County Council has been asked to install traffic ramps and speed control signs on a road in Naas.
It came from Cllr Anne Breen, who told a Naas Municipal District meeting that these are required on the Ballymore Road - between the roundabout at the ring road and Swans corner “in the interests of pedestrian and road safety.”
However, KCC engineer Donal Hodgins pointed out there is a speed control sign on the road, which is in operation. He also noted that the average speed was recorded was 46 kph, He also said that “due to limited resources” there are no plans to install traffic calming at this location.
Another council engineer David Reel said speeding is not a significant problem there.
Cllr Anne Breen, who said the gardaí are not in that area very often, was supported by Mayor Bill Clear who noted that the road is wide and he observed one vehicle with a trailer travelling at over 90 kph.
Independent councillor Seramie Moore said that forthcoming legislation will likely mean that this area is made a 30 km/h limit route.
Cllr Evie Sammon said that residents should be consulted prior to any ramps being constructed because of the noise created by traffic passing over.
