IFC Group A

Sallins 0-14

Allenwood 0-8

Sallins kept their Intermediate Championship campaign alive with a hard fought win over Allenwood in Round Towers on Friday evening.

Both sides had contrasting results in their previous outings — Allenwood beat Leixlip while Sallins lost to Castledermot, so they knew they couldn't suffer the same fate in this game or their season would be over.

They were quickest out of the blocks and had the score board ticking after just 10 seconds when Paul Farrelly split the posts.

Allenwood responded well though and hit the next three points unanswered through Darren Judge, Johnny Doyle and Eoin Bagnall respectively.

With the game being played at an electric pace, it was Sallins' turn to hit three on the bounce, courtesy of Paul Farrelly, Colm Dalton and Luke Killian.

The sides traded further points before the break and Sallins led by the minimum at half time, 0-6 0-5.

The second half was where Sallins really came to life and turned the screw. They scored the first five points of the half to extend their lead out to six and leave Allenwood with a lot of work to do.

Colm Dalton was proving very accurate from frees, while his brother James, Cian Grimes and Luke Kelly all chipped in with a point each.

Allenwood did try to muster up something of a comeback, but they could only manage three points in the second half, and only one of those came from play.

Both sides finished the game with 14 men, as Johnny Doyle was given a second yellow card for an off-the-ball incident, while moments later Cian Grimes was sent to the stands for a second bookable offence.

It made little difference to the end result and the full time whistle blew shortly afterwards.

Sallins play Leixlip in their final group game and Allenwood face Castledermot.
