Single vehicle road traffic collision in Kildare as driver tests positive for drugs
The Kildare motorist was charged with dangerous driving
An Garda Síochana Kildare attended the scene of an horrific single vehicle road traffic collision over the bank holiday weekend.
Thankfully, the driver escaped without injury.
However, the driver failed a roadside drugs test for cannabis and cocaine and was arrested.
The driver has since been charged with Dangerous Driving, and further charges may follow pending the results of forensic drug analysis.
A garda spokesperson said of the incident: “Take a good look at this car lying on its roof. Then ask yourself how different this could have been.
“A family receiving a knock on the door. A life-changing injury. An innocent road user caught up in someone else's reckless decision.
“This time, luck was on the driver's side. Next time, it could be someone else's life that pays the price.
“Driving under the influence of drugs destroys judgement, slows reactions and puts every road user at risk. Don't gamble with lives. Never drive under the influence of drugs.”
