A Dublin man was fined for causing damages to a room in a well-known County Kildare hotel.

Naas District Court was previously told that Carl Victory, with an address given as 68 Rathvilly Park in Finglas, Dublin 11, County Dublin, had caused €1,200 worth of damages to a hotel room in Lawlor's Hotel in Naas on May 5, 2019.

On the latest court date — Thursday, November 9 last — the 37-year-old was unable to attend court due to an illness, according to his defending solicitor David Powderly.

Gardaí told Judge Desmond Zaidan that Mr Victory was later identified via CCTV and that he made full admissions to the offence.

He has no previous convictions.

The judge decided to impose a €1,000 fine on Mr Victory, which to be paid within three months.

Speaking directly to Mr Powderly, Judge Zaidan said: "If your client was here, I would have sent him to prison."
