'I'll take you with me' alleged threat

A woman told Naas District Court she had moved to hotel accommodation after her husband had waved a knife at her.

The woman, who has two children aged under 18 claimed she has been in fear every day and had asked for a separation but “he won’t leave the house.”

She said the couple are on  a waiting list for mediation.

She alleged the man, who was not present and was not represented at the hearing, has “got very threatening” and kicked in a bedroom door. She said he accused her of being with someone else which she denied saying that she is doing an evening course to improve her career..

She said she was threatened with a knife and shouted at by the man while the children were in another room.

He added he had said he has nothing to lose and he was going to jail or “six feet under” and “I’ll take you with me.”

On one occasion, she claimed, he came back late from work and dragged her out of bed.

“It’s getting worse, he’s very controlling," she said.

She added she has been trying to separate for two years and had gone back to the house when he was not there to get clothes.

She said when she went to the gardaí she was advised to go to a family law court.

Judge Desmond Zaidan commented that the man may still be living there because it is difficult to secure accommodation.

Granting an interim protection order, he said the behaviour appeared to be tantamount to emotional blackmail.

He adjourned the matter for a fuller hearing on July 22.
