NORTH KILDARE

Custodial sentences totalling 14 months were imposed on a Kilcock man at Naas District Court.

Judge Zaidan made the judgement on Thursday, October 19 last, in the case of Graham Hendrick, with an address listed as 56 The Paddocks in Kilcock, but who is currently remanded in custody on other matters.

The 31-year-old appeared before the judge via video-link.

The court was told that on November 17, 2022, Mr Hendrick engaged in abusive and threatening behaviour towards gardaí while intoxicated at Ledwill Park in Kilcock.

It was heard that he 'was unsteady on his feet' at the time of this offence.

He also engaged in similar behaviour towards gardaí while he was at Highfield Park in Kilcock on March 31 last.

Gardaí also said that on June 2 last, Mr Hendrick once more engaged in abusive and threatening behaviour while intoxicated at Chapel View in Kilcock.

The court was told that he was spotted 'running around shirtless' and asking bystanders to fight him him.

He also claimed that he 'would kill everyone (there).'

Lastly, Mr Hendrick was caught shoplifting two Smirnoff-brand ice cola cans from a shop in Kilcock on June 5 last.

The cans were worth a total of €5.50.

Mr Hendrick pleaded guilty to all of the offences.

Gardaí told the court that Mr Hendrick has a total of 51 previous convictions, 26 of which relate to public order offences and three of which relate to theft.

Speaking directly to the judge, defending solicitor David Powderly said that his client had struggled with alcohol abuse, and has sought treatment in order to address his addiction.

"Alcohol causes him to behave out-of-character," Mr Powderly said: "I would ask you to keep in mind his addiction, his willingness to seek treatment, his guilty pleas, and him being apologetic for his behaviour" Mr Powderly added.

Judge Zaidan was also told by gardaí that Mr Hendrick is due for release on a date in July of next year.

In response, Judge Zaidan imposed a three-month custodial sentence for the November offence, five months for the theft offence, and three months for the other two public order offences.

He also set appeal at €500.
