Prayers and blessings of the graves will be held at 2pm in New Abbey Cemetery, Kilcullen on Sunday, September 6.

At 3pm, Mass will be celebrated in St Brigid’s Cemetery, followed by the blessing of the graves.

Families and parishioners are invited to attend these special times of prayer and remembrance.

New Abbey Cemetery stands on the site of a 15th-century Franciscan friary founded in 1486 by Roland Eustace, Baron of Portlester.

It contains a medieval double altar tomb and the effigy of Portlester and his wife, alongside graves dating from the 18th century onwards.

The cemetery also contains the graves of soldiers who died during the 1798 Battle of Old Kilcullen.

St Brigid’s Cemetery is nearby, and both burial grounds are maintained by local community volunteers, helping to preserve these important places of remembrance and Kilcullen’s heritage.
