Cllr David Trost called for the measure for the Celbridge/Adclough areas

A Fianna Fáil councillor for Celbridge, Co Kildare has called on the council to complete a review of road markings at heavily used intersections in the Celbridge/Ardclough areas.

Cllr David Trost motioned at a recent Celbridge-Leixlip Municipal District meeting, calling on the council to renew road markings where necessary “if they are badly worn and difficult to identify.”

Speaking at the meeting, Cllr Trost told the council that it was his experience that over time, road markings fade through “wear and tear”, and become “almost invisible” to motorists.

He said it is very important that road markings are renewed and that any issues are brought to the attention of the council.

A council official, responding to Cllr Trost, confirmed there is a council budget for refreshing road markings where it is evident they have faded.

A report issued by the council stated that the Municipal District office continuously monitors and reviews the condition of road markings in the district and refresh markings in high trafficked areas regularly.

The report noted that some materials used in line marking are dependent on dry conditions and on air and road temperatures, which is why most of the line refreshing works in the MD are carried out in the summer months.

The report concluded by saying that if Cllr Trost, or any other councillors, knew of specific areas that need refreshing, they can refer them to the District Engineer for consideration for addition to the schedule of line marking works.
