Calls for well-known accident blackspot in Athy to be made safer

Kildare Co Council has been asked to improve the safety of Cardington Bridge junction in Athy.

Cllr Aoife Breslin wants the local authority to carry out a traffic feasibility study of the intersection on the Grand Canal.

Last July a car travelling on the Stradbally to Athy road crashed through a barrier near Cardington Bridge and plunged into the Canal.

A man was rescued from the water and taken to hospital in the incident.
