New Kildare North TD Frank O Rourke has demanded a Park and Ride facility for bus commuters in Clane.

Bus Route 120 and 123 currently serve Clane and the Fianna Fail politician believe more and more people will use these services if they can park their vehicles nearby.

Mr O'Rourke said: "The annual passenger trips on Route 120/123 is 510,000, which includes all stops, and Clane would account for approx. 40% of the total.

"Clane could become a hub for public transport users from Clane and surrounding areas. The provision of the Park and Ride facility in Clane is already part of the Local Area  Plan for Clane which was prepared by Kildare Co Council."

Mr O'Rourke said he has raised the issue with Kildare Co Council, National Transport Authority - which has the statutory responsibility for the implementation and development of infrastructure projects in the Greater Dublin Area (GDA),  the Minister for Transport and Bus Eireann.

He added: "I welcome the announcement that a feasibility study is being carried out to assess the need for a Park and Ride facility on the M4 corridor which is definitely needed.’

"I was delighted to have worked with bus commuters in Kilcock and Celbridge recently to have the level of bus service improved.

"We must now work to provide additional facilities to encourage more people to use public transport."
