A number of issues in relation to the tender documents for a new national school in Maynooth have slowed down any potential developments for the project.

The new St Mary's Boy's National School is due to be built on the Moyglare Road, but progress in the project has been hampered as the design team need clarification on a number of issues before the building can begin.

Kildare North Labour representative Emmet Stagg highlighted the issue recently, stating that he was in contact with Richard Bruton, the Minister for Education.

Once a revised Stage 2 (b) submission which addresses these issues has been received and reviewed, the department will then revert to the school authorities with regard to a timeframe for progression to tender.

Mr. Stagg stated; "It is nearly two months since the clarification of the tender documents was sought and the revised Stage 2 (b) Report needs to be submitted without further delay.

"Planning permission for the new Maynooth Boy’s NS was granted by Kildare County Council on August 1 last and it comprises the replacement of the existing school and the construction of a new  three-storey national school with 24 classrooms including a special needs unit and multipurpose Hall. Three ballcourts and a junior play area will also be provided as part of the project."

The school currently has 530 pupils and when completed the new school will cater for just under 700 pupils.
