Co Kildare men are being asked to show their Best Viking Beards this weekend

Kildare town is preparing for Viking raids this weekend and the Best Viking Beards is just one of the competitions.

The Medieval Festival is taking place this Sunday August 20.

There will be some fierce sights to behold.

Just some of the events to take place include Déise Viking Re-enactments, a medieval food and crafts village, a children's historical dig along with a concert at St Brigid's Church.

The events are taking place between  12.30pm to 7pm.
