A retired teacher whose Defence Solicitor was a former student of his appeared before Naas District Court.

The 77-year-old with an address in Clane, was charged with careless driving at Bodenstown, Sallins, on June 28, 2016.

Evidence was heard in the court that the accused had no previous convictions.

Inspector Oliver Henry outlined how the accused was in a collision with an oncoming car and made an 'error of judgement.'

A significant amount of damage was caused to the other car.

The court heard how the accused has had a hip-replacement and is in  hospital, therefore unable to attend court.

Judge Desmond Zaidan said that because it was an 'error of judgement', he would allow him to keep his licence.

The Judge convicted and fined the accused €400 for careless driving, with six months to pay.
