Community 5k run on South Kildare border

Open to runners, joggers and walkers of all abilities
Kildare runners are being invited to take on a new community 5k event later this month as Barrowhouse Running Club hosts its inaugural Harvest Run just outside Athy.
The chip-timed race will raise funds for Barrowhouse GAA and is open to runners, joggers and walkers of all abilities.
The Harvest Run takes place on Wednesday, July 29, starting at 7pm from Barrowhouse GAA Clubhouse.
The flat, scenic course winds through the surrounding countryside before finishing back at the clubhouse.
Entry costs €15 for adults, €10 for under-18s and €30 for a family ticket covering two adults and two children.
Although based in neighbouring Co Laois, the event is expected to attract participants from Athy and across south Kildare, offering runners preparing for autumn races, or those simply looking for a community challenge, an opportunity to take part.

Barrowhouse Running Club was established in February 2025 after a Couch to 5K programme organised as a fundraiser for Shanganamore National School.
What began as a small group of beginners has since grown into a volunteer-led club of almost 40 members, with participants progressing from their first 5km to completing 10km races, half-marathons and even full marathons.
The club describes itself as being "just as much a social group as a running one" and says the Harvest Run is its way of giving something back to Barrowhouse GAA Club and the wider local community.
Event organiser Nicola Brennan said: "If you've ever thought running isn't for you, you'd fit right in with us."
Prizes will be presented to the first male, female and juvenile finishers, while spot prizes will also be awarded on the night.
The event will feature professional chip timing and will be supported by stewards and An Garda Síochána along the route.
Online registration available at bit.ly/BarrowhouseHarvestRun, via @barrowhouseharvestrun on Instagram and Facebook, or in-person on the night.
