Concerns raised over inaccurate data on speeding being reported by Kildare County Council

Fine Gael councillor Fiona McLoughlin Healy has hit out at the Kildare County Council as she claims that the data in a traffic data survey has been misrepresented as the report is 'factually incorrect'.

Cllr McLoughlin Healy was speaking about a traffic survey that was carried out in Suncroft village, an area where there are concerns over regular instances of speeding. According to the local councillor, Kildare County Council reported that 49.9 per cent of the traffic going through the village was above the speed limit, but a review of the data states that it was actually 86 per cent of the traffic that was speeding in the area.

"How or why the Council could misread its own data, the net result of which was the minimization of the speeding happening in Suncroft, creates an appalling vista," she said.

"There is no analysis or interpretation required of the raw data - reports are simply factually incorrect. The median speed was reported at 50kph. The raw data clearly and accessibly reports a median of 64kph."

Cllr McLoughlin Healy has requested that the council conduct an audit on all recent traffic reports in light of these discrepancies.

"At yesterday's meeting I indicated that in the absence of an explanation for such fundamental errors in the reporting of the Council's own traffic survey data, the Council will need to conduct an audit of all recent traffic surveys," she said.
