Councillor demands action on illegal encampments in the Curragh

Councillor Fiona McLoughlin Healy has called on a new body managing the Curragh Plains to tackle illegal encampments in the area.
The Curragh Forum, which includes representatives from the Department of Defence, is tasked with managing the 5,000 acres (20 km²) of common land synonymous with Co Kildare.
The Forum aims to improve the upkeep of the Plains and ensure that the natural amenity is protected for use by local groups and families who come to exercise, walk dogs and enjoy picnics.
However Cllr McLoughlin Healy called on the Forum to tackle several urgent issues in relation to the Plains.
The politician has listed the main problems as illegal encampments, illegal parking, dumping, over-grazing and maintenance and management of the Curragh Plains.
Cllr McLoughlin Healy will raise the issue at the next meeting of Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District on October 18.
