The circulation of false information was discussed at the latest MD meeting

The circulation of false information in relation to a proposed development in Kildare has been criticised by a number of Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) councillors.

The criticism was heard at the latest MD meeting, which was held on Wednesday, July 17 last.

A presentation was delivered to councillors in relation to a proposed development for 24 social dwellings to be provided at St John's Convent, New Street in Rathangan.

The members were asked to consider Kildare County Council's Part 8 report regarding the project, which refers to a development carried out by a Local Authority.

According to the information contained within the presentation, the site will measure at 0.68 hectares, and the units are described as follows: "24 Universal Designed Units and one Community Unit.

"The scheme has been designed to age-friendly requirements. It will provide much needed housing for older people."

Commenting on the matter, Social Democrats pointed out that a number of people were handing out misinformation in relation to the site, claiming that asylum seekers and drug addicts would be placed in the premises.

Mayor of the MD, Fine Gael Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer and Cllr Rob Power also agreed with Cllr Pender, with Cllr Power adding: "We will have developments in time for homeless people or those with addiction issues."

At the conclusion of the presentation, the Part 8 report was accepted by the members (This acceptance was proposed by Mayor O'Dwyer and seconded by Fianna Fáil Cllr Brian O'Loughlin).
