Decline in road deaths nationally

A provisional review of road fatalities by the Road Safety Authority and An Garda Síochána show that road deaths have declined by 19% in the last year.
Minster for Transport Tourism and Sport Paschal Donohoe welcomed the reduction and attributed the drop in figures to a number of factors including continuing enforcement by the gardaí, the work of the RSA and changes made to road-safety legislation.
The review showed there have been reductions in all road-user groups with 20 fewer vehicle occupant deaths, 14 fewer vulnerable road-user deaths and a 13% reduction in motorcycle deaths.
