Kildare Co Council carried out a clean-up of an area of the Curragh Plains at the weekend.

A JCB, a tractor and trailer and Council workers moved into the natural amenity.

There have been a number of serious incidents of littering in the Curragh in recent weeks.

Earlier this month, a small caravan was abandoned and burned to the ground.

And in July, a full-size kitchen sink and a flat-screen TV were among the items discarded in another area.

The Protect The Curragh group has reiterated appeals to people to lobby local politicians to have anti-litter laws enforced in the area.

Leaving or throwing litter in a public place is an offence that can be subject to an on-the-spot fine of €150 or a maximum fine of €3,000 if you are convicted in the local district court.
