Get down and dirty with the plants: it's Naked Gardening Day!

If you happen to spot a few of your neighbours gardening in the nude today, it isn’t your eyesight playing tricks on you – it’s just World Naked Gardening Day!

This takes place every year in the first week of May, and we’re looking for your suggestions as to who you would like to see naked in your back garden.

Whether you’d like to catch sight of Brad Pitt pruning your privet or Nigella Lawson tending to a large courgette, we’re looking for your suggestions.

What better time of year to tend to your vegetables in the buff? Temperatures are set to soar in this part of the world in coming days so no need to catch a chill.

Get down and dirty with the plants in your natural state, which organisers say is one of the best activities to do as a family.

Naked gardening is second only to naked swimming as a great family activity, they say.

Naked gardening enthusiasts say that the activity is the boost our culture needs to move towards body acceptance and improve our relationship with the natural environment.

Described as a simple joy, a spot of sun-kissed gardening in the nip reminds us of who we as humans and how we are a part of this planet.

So how can you take part? It’s as simple as waking up in the morning and skipping the clothes. Don’t forget to rub on a bit of suncream before gardening alone, with friends or with your family.

Organisers of World Naked Gardening Day are suggesting participants to try gardening on a hiking trail, in a city park or on the streets – although obviously we would advise you check local laws on nudity in public places before you drop your trousers.

Other advice from participants includes watching out around gardening tools and machinery, lest you take the pruning too far...
