Patrick Keatley, SIPTU shop-steward at Ballitore's Glanbia, is employed there for almost 35 years.

Yesterday, the food company announced that the village would be impacted by significant job losses.

It is anticipated that there will be at least 30 redundancies at the plant. 25% pay cuts are also on the horizon.

Currently there are 85 full-time staff employed at Glanbia and 20 casual.

Mr Keatley, a native of Ballitore, works as a machine operator.

He said: "It just came out of the blue."

Production is going well at the plant but some Tesco contracts were lost in recent weeks.
