Incredible as Kildare driver tried to use 'sick baby' excuse for speeding

Motorists warned to ensure vehicles are roadworthy, taxed, tested and insured before taking to the roads.
A motorist caught travelling at 180 km/h on the N7 in Co. Kildare allegedly invented a dramatic excuse to avoid prosecution after claiming they were rushing a sick baby for emergency medical treatment.
Naas Roads Policing Unit detected the car travelling at 180 km/h in a 100 km/h zone before bringing the vehicle to a stop.
Gardaí quickly discovered the "baby" was in fact a remarkably realistic baby doll. Further checks revealed the vehicle had no insurance, no NCT, no motor tax and a dangerously worn tyre.
The driver was arrested and charged with dangerous driving and will appear before the courts. Fixed Charge Penalty Notices were also issued for the additional road traffic offences, while the vehicle was seized.
Separately, Naas Gardaí seized a van after officers on mobile patrol in Sallins noticed it had a smashed rear window.
A quick check on the Garda Mobility App showed the van's motor tax had expired for more than 400 days. When stopped safely, the driver also failed to display valid insurance, motor tax and CVRT discs as required.
The van was seized under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act and Fixed Charge Penalty Notices will follow.
Gardaí said the incidents highlight the importance of ensuring vehicles are roadworthy, taxed, tested and insured before taking to the roads.
At 180 km/h, there are no excuses, with Gardaí warning that one reckless decision can have devastating consequences for drivers, passengers and other road users.
