Investigation underway following discovery of suspected human remains at Dublin hospital

Gardaí have launched an investigation after what is suspected to be human remains were found near St James' Hospital yesterday afternoon.
The remains were discovered at around 3pm yesterday afternoon after a tree was uprooted near Grand Canal View towards the back of the Dublin 8 hospital. Gardaí from Kilmainham Garda Station were called to the scene and it was preserved until a forensic investigation can be carried out.
Gardaí noted that the remains could be historic, rather than anything recent and it is believed that the remains have been there for quite some time.
A forensic anthropologist will examine the remains today.
"It still has to be established if the remains are human," a garda spokesperson said.
