It's opening night tonight at the Kildare Drama Festival

Curtains up at the CWMS in Kildare town
It's opening night tonight at the Kildare Drama Festival which will run until March 15 at the CWMS in Kildare town.
The festival was recently launched by celebrated actress Una Crawford O’Brien. Una has had a long and distinguished career on stage and screen and is best well known for her role as “Renee” in RTEs drama series Fair City.
Una spoke warmly about her time as an amateur actress with Sundrive Players in Dublin for 21 years and the lifelong friendships she made.
She explained that very often the grounding you receive with community drama groups is as good as attending theatre schools.
She also said as an amateur you can play a greater variety of roles.
Una won the best actress award at the All-Ireland Finals before turning professional.
Una was joined by her husband the great Irish thespian Brian Murray.
Brian will be especially remembered by Kildare residents for his role in The Irish RM in the 1980s as Flurry Knox. The Irish RM was filmed extensively in County Kildare with locations in Naas and Robertstown regularly used.
Chairperson Noreen Quinlivan thanked Una and Brian for attending and for chatting with all the attendees. Noreen confirmed that the festival is running from the 7th to the 11th of March starting at 8pm nightly. This year’s adjudicator is Rose O’Neill.
A superb programme of plays has been together ranging from hilarious comedy to gripping drama, from Greek tragedy to modern Irish plays.
There is something for everyone.
Tickets are a recession proof price of €12 a night with a season ticket of 8 nights top quality theatre for only €50.00.
