Just 1.7% of council homes in Kildare are vacant

Kildare County Council says the number of empty homes continues to fall and is a at a level ‘not thought possible to achieve’
Some 1.71% of homes owned by Kildare County Council are currently vacant.
KCC official Annette Aspell told a council meeting that expert opinion had suggested that the the level of empty houses and apartments would never fall below 2% - but KCC has achieved an even lower figure.
Ms Aspell was responding to a query from Cllr Noel Connolly who asked about the delay in refurbishing homes before they are re-let as well as the cost.
Ms Aspell said in June there were some 103 vacant properties from a total stock. She added this “shows a significant downward trend in the vacancy rate compared to a vacancy rate in January 2025 of 2.5%.”
Referring to delays, Ms Aspell said the council takes time renovating a property to preserve its condition as well as possible.
