Kilcullen Canoe Club (KCC) hosted event to mark International Women's Day

Two weeks ago, Kilcullen Canoe Club (KCC) marked International Women's Day with a delightful celebration of the women within its community. The event, held at the KCC Clubhouse, was a testament to the club's commitment to fostering inclusivity and empowerment.
The evening commenced with a rejuvenating session of Pilates led by Lisa from Body Pilates - https://www.pilatesbody.ie/. Attendees had the opportunity to engage in mindful breathwork guided by club member Deirdre Groves, who practices at Balanced Bodies Holistic Centre. This session not only promoted physical well-being but also emphasized the importance of mental health and relaxation techniques.
"It was a fantastic night, celebrating the diverse talents and contributions of the women in our club," remarked a member of KCC. "We wanted to create an environment where everyone feels valued and supported."
The festivities included treats for all ages, reflecting the club's dedication to inclusivity and community spirit. Members came together to celebrate the achievements of women within the club and beyond and also the moms looking after our athletes!
In a significant announcement, KCC revealed that it had secured grants from the Kildare Sports Partnership through the "Women in Sport" and "Her Moves" campaigns. These grants will support female members of the club in the upcoming season, furthering the mission to empower women through water sports.
"We are thrilled to have received this support, which will enable us to provide more opportunities for women to participate and excel in canoeing," said a representative from KCC.
As part of its ongoing efforts to promote inclusivity, KCC has launched beginner courses scheduled to begin in April. These courses aim to introduce participants to kayaking while providing them with the necessary skills to navigate the waters safely. The course, designed to achieve the Canoeing Ireland Level 1 Kayak Skills Award, covers essential techniques such as basic safety rules, paddling maneuvers, and capsize drills.
"We are excited to welcome newcomers to the world of canoeing," expressed a KCC instructor. "Our beginner courses offer a supportive environment for individuals of all ages to learn and grow."
Details for the beginner courses are as follows:
Dates: April 26th, Friday Evening, 7pm - 9pm & April 27th, Saturday, 10am - 2pm
