Kildare: Call for dirty road bollards to be cleaned

Dirty road bollards lining the cycle track in Sallins need to be cleaned.
That’s the view of Cllr Carmel Kelly who told a Naas Municipal District meeting that many of them “are barely visible at night time due to the level of accumulated dirt.
“You can’t see them, that's why so many of them are broken,” she said.
She also suggested that there are alternatives to bollards.
Kildare County Council says it will continue to replace bollards and clean the cycleway as well as planning for the cleaning of the bollards. The council also pointed out that there is a significant maintenance requirement associated with such projects and this will need to be paid for.
KCC engineer David Reel cleaning is done periodically and it costs between €10,000 and €20,000. This cost, he said, has to be included in the budget.
