A man charged in connection with an incident which led to the death of a man following an assault in the Allenwood area has appeared at Naas District Court.

John Drennan, 27, whose address was given as 36 Colmcille, Edenderry, and who is in custody, faces allegations of producing an article and violent disorder on January 3, 2012 at Allenwood.

He appeared via videolink before a Judge Desmond Zaidan.

A number of other men have also been charged in relation to the same  incident which resulted in the death of Mark Loughlin, aged 29 and from Edenderry.

A previous hearing was told by Detective Garda Wayne Kelly that he was allegedly assaulted with “what we believe to be an axe.”

Sgt Brian Jacob told the court that the book of evidence in John Drennan’s case is not yet ready and he sought an adjournment to a future date.

Sgt Jacob said the case related to an allegation of violent disorder and is associated with a more serious offence “where a man unfortunately lost his life.”

Defending solicitor David Powderly said the defendant remains in custody and there is no application for bail.

Also  before the court are William Bagnall, 56, whose address was given as Allenwood South, Naas; his sons Shane Bagnall, 23, whose address was  also given as Allenwood South; Killian Bagnall, 19, also of Allenwood South and Damien Bagnall, 36, of 128 Caragh Court, Naas.
