Kildare dad running desert marathon to raise funds for son's school

Six days running 250 kms (156 miles) across the Sahara desert.
A Kildare dad is running a desert marathon in Morocco to raise funds for St Raphael's Special School in Celbridge where his son is a pupil.
Gary McDonald is taking on the challenge in tribute to his six year old son Iarlaith who he describes as his superhero.
Next April Gary is running in the Marathon de Sables in Morocco - six days running 250 kms (156 miles) across the Sahara Desert.
Gary said: "Iarlaith's superpower is - he always succeeds in bringing a smile to my face no matter how tired or anxious I am. He is the happiest, most easy-going and loving kid you’ll ever meet, which is amazing given all he has been through.
"I hope some of his superpowers rub off on me, I’ll need them. Next April I’m taking on the Marathon de Sables in Morocco. Billed as the 'toughest foot race on the planet', it is six days running 250 kms (156 miles) across the endless sand dunes and rocky plains of the Sahara desert. I will train over the course of 8 months to ensure I’m ready both mentally and physically.
"This is all to raise much needed funds for Iarlaith’s school, St Raphael’s special school, Celbridge.
"For clarity, all participation costs will be borne by me. All funds raised will go to purchase and install Clevertouch M-Series 65” screens for the pupils. The impact of technology in education cannot be overstated.
"It opens doors to new ways of learning and allows the students to connect with the world around them. With the aid of this equipment, the school will continue to create an enriched learning environment that fosters independence and growth. Please support me in raising enough funds for three, which will cost €9,000. All donations, no matter how big or small are greatly appreciated."
