‘Parents are not using the car park’ - local councillor

Residents of a housing estate in Naas are being blocked into their homes by people driving children to school.

Cllr Ger Dunne told a Naas Municipal District meeting that 34 houses at Lacken View face the school Scooil an Linbh Íosa, Nallycane.

A lot of them are being blocked in , Claimed Ger Dunne, because parents are no longer parking the church grounds and walking their children to school - instead of driving into the estate.

“It’s not working,” said Cllr Dunne, adding that while cars were once left in the car park “not any more.”

The councillor claimed that parents are parking on double yellow lines and people are being delayed by up to 30 minutes.

He wants Kildare County Council to conduct a safety audit on the active travel scheme at the school which was introduced in November 2024.

He claimed that some residents are unable to leave their homes and some are unable to get in.

Work started on a project, the Safe Route to School Programme, two years back.

The project is designed to encourage pupils and students to walk and cycle to primary and secondary schools and some residents in Lacken View objected to this.
