Kildare Fire Service issues warning over chimney fires during the Winter season

As the Winter season approaches, Kildare people are being warned to ensure that their chimneys are adequately cleaned on a regular basis to avoid potentially devastating fires spreading in the colder months.

Kildare Fire Service has issued a warning saying that chimney fires become more prominent during this time of year due to the cold weather.

They said: "Ensure you have your chimney swept regularly to avoid fires like the one in the picture. A build up of soot in the chimney can re-ignite and fall back to the grate/ into your room. The fire can also spread in the chimney breast through your attic or walls, turning our call from a "Chimney Fire" into a "Fire Domestic", the latter being devastating."
