IN-CUSTODY

A Kildare defendant has denied ever assaulting his friend.

Appearing before Naas District Court on Thursday, June 15 via video-link was Sebastian Furman, with an address listed as the Peter McVerry Trust Homeless Shelter at Kerdiffstown House in Naas, but who is currently remanded in custody.

The 36-year-old stands accused of assaulting his friend at property located within County Kildare on February 15 last.

However, Judge Desmond Zaidan was told that the man denied ever assaulting his friend.

Instead, he claims that his friend suffered an epileptic seizure, which caused their injuries.

Mr Furman’s solicitor, Tim Kennelly, reiterated that his client is contesting the details put forward by the State.

It was heard that the friend suffered two black eyes, in addition to a swollen cheek and a damaged nose.

They also lost consciousness for a brief period of time.

Garda Sergeant Brian Jacob added the file from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is not ready yet, as the DPP is still examining medical evidence in relation to the alleged injured party.

Judge Zaidan adjourned the case to June 28.
