Kildare public are thanked by Garda Supt for 'tendering information' on savage assault

Gratitude is being expressed by Kildare Garda Division to the public's assistance in 'tendering of information' in relation to the savage assault of a friar.

Two men have been arrested.

Supt Martin Walker said:"It is thanks in large, to the tendering of information."

Carmelite  Fr Manuel Karipott was hospitalised at Naas after being attacked with a glass bottle. It is understood that the priest was assaulted by two men leading to injuries on his mouth and eye.

It is believed that the friar was attacked by two male teenagers. The incident took place in the vicinity of White Abbey, at about 10pm, a quiet area, on Thursday last.

A 19- year-old male and 20-year-old male are now under questioning at Newbridge Garda Station.
